Children’s Birthdays with Budget-friendly Themes,
Planning Teenage and Young Adult Get-togethers!

Too often today’s mothers find themselves worried, frazzled, or intimidated at the prospect of a child’s birthday party and older kids’ get-togethers: worried whether their child (or the other children) will like it; frazzled by the anticipated number of guests and the ensuing mess in their home; intimidated by the over-the-top parties and gatherings given by many of her fellow parents. Our speaker, a mother of three, will share her tried and true suggestions. She’ll talk about how the birthday party’s theme can be taken from the child’s own personal interests, activities, and temperament. Many practical tips will be shared, such as  getting help from older siblings, which fosters generosity in the family! She’ll talk about using your imagination and not being afraid to be original!

Come for Coffee. Celebrating Friendship. Making Good Coffee and Tea. Attractive Table Settings.

Friendship is one of life’s greatest joys. Our speaker will encourage the attendees to welcome their friends frequently to their homes for good conversation and simple refreshment. Being able and willing to do this, especially on an impromptu basis, presupposes that the hostess can do this with a minimum of time and fuss. Having a few attractive linens and dishes takes this from having an average cup of tea or coffee to a real ladies tea time! Our speaker will speak about how any hostess can give her friends comfort and an innate sense of worth just by the care she puts into the presentation. She will also share how the art of asking good questions can help a friend in need, and that the time together can foster a real appreciation for friendships!

Light refreshments will be provided.
We are limited to 15 attendees.

Good and Simple: Life’s Basics

Long Island, New York

Our morning will begin with coffee and a talk on the art of simplicity in the home through the vehicle of little things done well!

The practical classes will be focused on life’s basic skills in the kitchen: Bread baking and soup making.

Schedule:

9:45 Arrival and coffee
10:00 Opening talk
10:30 Break
10:45 Class in the kitchen
12:00 Departure

1) Bread Making 101: Learning How to Make Homemade Dinner Rolls

The art of making bread at home does not have to be as mystifying as it seems. With the growing interest in eating healthier foods for the family, many novice AND seasoned homemakers want to try their hand at bread making. This class will provide the participants to see firsthand each step of the process. Our presenter will answer all the questions about the ingredients, the process, and the techniques as she demonstrates making one of the most gratifying recipes: dinner rolls. Her baking tips and shortcuts, born of her expertise (she was a professional baker for several years) and her experience of baking for her own family will be particularly helpful to the attendees. Participants will receive the recipe and the skillset to go into their own kitchens with confidence to provide the gift of freshly baked bread for the family.

2) Soup Making: Preparing Basic Soups

The presenter will teach another gratifying skill in the kitchen: the art of making soup. Beginning with learning how to make soup stock from scratch, the participants will watch how easy it is to make homemade stock (the base of many soup recipes), but will learn that in a pinch there are delicious and nutritious alternatives that can be store bought (and which ones to avoid!). The presenter will emphasize that, with the knowledge of how to make a basic stock, they could prepare an endless variety of soups using whatever they had on hand. With the confidence of knowing how to make the base of the soup, the presenter will share with the participants the simplicity of a recipe like butternut squash and ginger soup. This session and the previous bread making session aim to contribute to the participants’ growing knowledge of the basics of baking and cooking and to their skillset in preparing simple, but nutritious and delicious meals.

Creating Intimate Spaces

Creating Intimate Spaces

Garden City, NY
Hosted at the home of Patricia White; address will be sent to attendees via email.

With interior designer Jolene Strife, founder of Designing Life, LLC

Schedule :
9:45: Arrival
10:00: Introduction and first talk
10:45: Break for coffee
11:00: Second talk
12:00: Depart

First talk:
How we define intimate spaces has everything to do with where and how we foster quiet and tranquility. Silence can be a hallmark for intimate spaces, and relationships within the home can respect and learn to promote these treasured assets! The speaker will share on how to identify which area in the home is clearly for communal conversation and interaction and how to encourage others to use it for that purpose, and where our focus on other parts of the home can create an environment that respects and honors the need for more quiet reflection and connection. The Master bedroom , a study, a child’s homework space-all of these can necessitate the need for quiet and tranquility, and the speaker will help clarify how we can usher in that sense of serenity.

Second Talk :
BRINGING BEAUTY INTO A ROOM: COLOR, TEXTURE, LIGHT.
CONSIDERING THE TASTES OF OTHERS.

To transform a house into an attractive home for her family is the task of every homemaker. Whether gifted with innate talent for the work or not, every woman can create rooms that are appealing and suitable for her family’s needs. After first considering the practical aspects of decorating a given room (its size, shape, architectural features, light, number of windows and doors, etc.), the speaker will then discuss how the elements of color, texture, and lighting can maximize the assets of a room and can also minimize its flaws. This conversation will focus on how decorating the space does not have to break the bank, but with some small changes , your intimate space can feel like a brand new room, and one the exudes warmth and tranquility!
