Spring Cleaning for the Soul

In the spring, we often make plans to totally reinvent our homes. We pull out bins from the garage and re-organize them, we deep clean our bathrooms and bedrooms, and we donate old clothes and furniture that have been collecting dust in our homes over the past year.

This spring, we want to propose an additional practice: a spring cleaning of your soul. We dedicate so much time and energy to making our homes look presentable, which is very important, and not something we want to discourage.  We simply want to encourage you to spend the same time and energy that you do on your home and family on shaping up and bettering yourself as well.

We are not talking about the self-care that our society promotes.  Instead, we are challenging you to devote serious time and attention to forming your spiritual life, cleansing your heart, and becoming the virtuous woman God is calling you to be

This type of spiritual growth can be done by any one of us. Our vision here at Home Unlimited is inspired by the teachings of St. Josemaria Escriva and guided by the principle that our ordinary work, if done well, for the Glory of God, is what will truly sanctify our souls.

Ways to glorify God in your daily work:

Saying a quick prayer of Thanksgiving when you wake up

Praying for people in your life that you don’t get along with

Doing the dishes, or sweeping the floor with purpose and a cheerful attitude

Encountering your families with a smile and joyful spirit

Greeting your spouse with warmth and curiosity about their day

Completing your work in an efficient and effective manner

We encourage you to take a moment each day to reflect on which virtues you would like to grow in that day. Make a concerted effort to Fulfill your duties with determination and cheerfulness, giving glory to God as you go.

Questions to Promote Personal and Spiritual Growth

Do you want to grow in virtue but don’t know where to begin? Reflect or journal on these questions to get thinking about how you are being called to grow within your life.

Questions to guide personal growth:

What am I thankful for today?

What would I like to accomplish today?

How am I going to glorify God today?

What are my strengths in completing daily tasks? What do I struggle with?

What are things that cause stress in my day? How can I mitigate that stress and embrace a happy attitude instead?

How do I cope with challenges? What is one positive and one negative aspect about how I tend to respond to difficulties?

What do I want my relationship with God to look like? What is one thing I can do to start improving that relationship?

What virtues do I naturally possess? Which ones do I have to work at?

What is a part of my day I really enjoy? What is a part that I do not look forward to? How can I change my attitude toward experiences I do not enjoy?

Do I end each day in prayer and gratitude to God?
