Motherhood
Mothers’ Mission: Happiness in the Home!
Mothers and fathers have a mission to nurture and protect their family to bring about happiness! Mothers can tap into their special capacity and intuition to provide basic needs of others (food, shelter, clothing, health, unconditional love, and a sense of belonging and security) but need support and help.
The Art of Living for Women: Supporting Mothers in Their Mission
The mission of Home Unlimited is to better society by helping families create happy homes, and the role of The Art of Living for Women is to help mothers and all women in this effort in a variety of ways. For example, a new Art of Living for Women series, just introduced in Illinois, centers on practices that provide nourishment to family life, leading to joyful, happy families. A version of the opening talk in this series was recorded and can be viewed on our resources page. The second session in this series is scheduled for May 20, 2023, and will delve into one of the practices, connection. It is interpersonal connection that gives a child a sense of belonging and worth. The description of (and sign up for) this session can be viewed here.

Georgia just had an event focused on flower arrangement. Maryland is having a session on entertainment. Wisconsin will be having a session on summer vacations and activities and, toward the end of the year, a session on holiday celebrations. Both of these sessions have economy in mind.

Member's Corner: Meet Judith Goodrich
HU: What is your name and where do you live?
Judith: My name is Judith Goodrich. My family and I live in Falmouth, Maine which is in southern Maine, just outside of Portland. We are two hours north of Boston.
HU: Can you tell us about your home?
Judith: We’ve had several homes, all in the northeast. The change of seasons is spectacular! Each of our homes has been unique, but some things I love about all the homes we’ve lived in are: coming home in the dark and seeing lights on inside the house, the smell of coffee, the smell of a freshly unwrapped bar of soap, and listening to our children interact with each other.
HU: Do you have a house, an apartment, or another type of dwelling? Are you urban or rural?
Judith: Currently my husband and I live in a house, but we have also lived in apartments. We live in a suburban area.
HU: What is your role with Art of Living for Women and Home Unlimited? How long have you been involved in Art of Living for Women and Home Unlimited?
Judith: I am a team leader, hostess, and speaker/mentor. I am also on the board of directors for Home Unlimited. I have been involved for 5 years for AOLW and have been with Home Unlimited since its inception 3 years ago.
HU: What expertise do you like to share with The Art Of Living For Women? How did you acquire your expertise?
Judith: Every woman has strengths and weaknesses when it comes to caring for her home. I think I can open anyone’s refrigerator and put together a meal. But if you put me in a messy room, I find it stressful and don’t know where or how to begin. Cooking, etiquette, entertaining, meal planning, and laundry are my strongest homemaking skills and I love teaching those things. I’m not so good with budgeting and organizing and always welcome help in those areas. I learned cooking from my mother and the mother of one of my childhood friends. I also liked watching cooking shows on TV while I was growing up and still do. My mother went back to work when I was ten and she put me in charge of dinner some nights. I learned by practice! As far as learning etiquette goes, for some reason, I was born with a protocol gene. When I was eight years old I would check childrens’ etiquette books out from the library and found them fascinating! Really! I learned a lot of my homemaking skills just by having chores as a child. I am also from that generation of women that had required home economics classes in school. Cooking and home magazines and books have also inspired me.
HU: What is your favorite memory from one of your seminars?
Judith: The memory I have from every seminar is the comradery all the women involved share. The support, encouragement, help, and ideas we share with each other create meaningful friendships. People seem to leave the seminars happy, refreshed, and more confident in their ability to care for their home.
HU: Tell us what you have in store for your next seminar or what do you hope to do for The Art of Living for Women?
Judith: We’ve had a lot of requests for a seminar on the instant pot. Check out our events page for more on what is in store for the summer!
