Creating Intimate Spaces

OVERVIEW and CLASS #1 :

THE SERENITY OF THE MASTER BEDROOM: A MARITAL RETREAT

Every married couple needs a space apart in the home, a place that accords them the privacy, the peace, and the pleasure needed to establish and deepen their relationship as husband and wife. Our two presenters described in both theoretical and practical ways how to create a master bed-room that reflects the sacredness of marriage and respects the husband as the protector of the family. The question-and-answer phase of the session also addressed the training of the children to respect their parents’ bedroom. Attendees practiced making beds properly (top sheet and bottom sheet, hospital corners, etc.) and learned how to judge the quality and suitability of various sheet materials as well as thread count.

CLASS #2:

BRINGING BEAUTY INTO A ROOM: COLOR, TEXTURE, LIGHT; CONSIDERING THE TASTES OF OTHERS

To transform a house into an attractive home for her family is the task of every homemaker. Whether gifted with innate talent for the work or not, every woman can create rooms that are appealing and suitable for her family’s needs. After first considering the practical aspects of decorating a given room (its size, shape, architectural features, light, number of windows and doors, etc.), the presenter then discussed how the elements of color, texture, and lighting can maximize the assets of a room and can also minimize its flaws. Attendees learned how to use their color wheel in choosing a palette for any room. This session could easily be expanded to accommodate the wealth of helpful information on the topic, some of which they received in the form of hand-outs for their notebook.

CLASS #3:

FLOWER ARRANGING FOR ALL OCCASSIONS

This session involved both several expert demonstrations and a class hands-on exercise. Valuable tips on choosing the appropriate vase for each arrangement (given its form and flowers) helped greatly, as did the recommendations on what size and shape vases to have on-hand in the home. The demonstrations included the long, low centerpiece typically used for the holiday/special occasion dinner table; the large, full bouquet of complementary flowers; the small, packed-in-tightly arrangement often presented in a small, square glass vase; and the scraggly, sparse, inexpensive floral bunch transformed into a small, pretty arrangement. All the attendees made a small, tightly packed arrangement using flowers of their choice to bring a note of beauty into the master bedroom!
