Kitchen Kapers

OVERVIEW

Children today face a world of educational opportunities. Young minds are learning about foreign lands and even other galaxies. Yet in our efforts to give children a greater global awareness, we often overlook the formative possibilities we have in our own homes. Ironically, kids may know plenty about the moon but nothing about measuring ingredients.

The work of the home provides a solid foundation for a child's future development. Children learn responsibility and values, as well as practical tasks. But more importantly, the work of the home helps children develop a spirit of service that builds up and strengthens family life.

Whether a culinary or etiquette class, Kitchen Kapers teaches students respect and appreciation for the art and science of food preparation. Kitchen Kapers teaches girls how to prepare breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert. Students learn how to follow a recipe, how to get organized in the kitchen, and how to clean up after themselves. Each girl can then apply these skills at home, helping her parents and family enjoy.

It also teaches professional details of hospitality, including telephone manners, good grooming and table etiquette. Young girls learn how to care for the home and how to be more considerate to those around them. Good manners lead to good habits that can make family life more pleasant.
